Local and Online Activities for the Global Week of 24-7 Prayer

6–13 September is the Global Week of 24-7 Prayer, when we’re encouraged to join the nations in forming a non-stop chain of prayer for our world, our cities and our neighbourhoods. This year’s theme for the week is ‘at the name of Jesus’, taken from Philippians 2:9–11:

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
    and gave him the name that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
    in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
    to the glory of God the Father.

How you can join in with the Global Week of 24-7 Prayer

Churches in our local area are working together to offer prayer services and spaces throughout the week. Everyone is welcome to any of these. You can drop in at the open sanctuary events at any time within their time slot – even if it’s just for five minutes.

Some church gardens will be open for prayer. Look out for signs with the ‘Global Week of 24-7 Prayer’ logos on them.

Sunday 6 September

7–8pm, Inverleith St Serf’s Church: Worship event and quiet prayer time

Monday 7 September

7.30–8am, Inverleith St Serf’s Church: Open Sanctuary

Tuesday 8 September

8–9am, online: prayer led by 24-7 Prayer Scotland via Teams

11am–12 noon, online: prayer led by 24-7 Prayer UK via Teams

2–3pm, online: prayer led by 24-7 Prayer UK via Teams

Wednesday 9 September

11am–2pm, Granton Church: Open Sanctuary with Prayer Service at 11.15am

7pm–9pm, Wardie Church: Open Sanctuary

Thursday 10 September

10–11am, Granton Church: Open Sanctuary

Friday 11 September

10am–12 noon, Wardie Church: Open Sanctuary

11am–1pm, Granton Church: Open Sanctuary

Saturday 12 September

10am–12 noon, Wardie Church: Open Sanctuary

Sunday 13 September

Morning: services in the area will use the Global Week of Prayer themed prayer.

Praying at home

If you can’t make it to any of these events, you can join in by simply praying at home.

The Lectio365 daily devotional app will be focusing on the Global Week of 24-7 Prayer.

Father,
When we feel overwhelmed,
help us to remember that you are the only person who can truly transform us, our nations and our cultures.
Lord Jesus, you are exalted to the highest place.
Your name is above every other name—every ruler and principality and power in heaven and on earth and under the earth.
So today we pray in the name of Jesus—that every knee would bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord.
Not because we have the strength to make it happen, but because you do.
Not because our plans are sufficient, but because your power is limitless.
The places that overwhelm us are the very places you came to save.
Come, Lord Jesus. Transform our nations. Transform our cities. Transform our neighbourhoods. Let your name be proclaimed throughout the globe.
